Celebrating America's 250th birthday.
The Historic General Stanton Inn

As we begin preparations to celebrate America's 250th birthday, this blog will highlight the historical significance of The General Stanton Inn which was built in 1740. Pictured here is the front of the Inn which rests on the Old Post Rd that ran between Boston and Philadelphia. The route was established by the ingenious Ben Franklin who became Postmaster General of the American Colonies in 1753. The Old Post Rd thus became one of America's most conduits between early American towns and cities, helping to establish an essential communication network for the Revolutionaries. You will note the stone hitching posts on the right-hand side of this picture where the "post man" and weary travelers would tie their horses as they "checked" into the Inn and tavern as they rested for the night.
